One of our projects is a Primary school for deaf. The school for deaf of BDI was started back in 2009 under a tree with just a handful of children. Today BDI has an actual school. Until recently it was located in Kawempe – one of the main districts in the capital, Kampala. Yet, now we have moved to our new school in Semuto. Currently 54 children are enrolled at BDI’s school for deaf. 35 of the children are living at school. BDI has from Baby Class to P.7. In Uganda, families often pay school fees for their children to attend school. At our school for the deaf, there are no fees for the children to attend - either because they have no one who is able to pay, or because they have no one who is willing to fund their education.
